Parnassus Books

Pictures from Parnassus Books

The official first day of summer in the world of parents is the last day of school.  This year our last day of school was yesterday.  After a late afternoon trip to the library with my family - which is a superb start to any holiday - I received a beautiful set of pictures from Sissy Gardner at Parnassus Books in Nashville, TN.  Happy summertime to me!

Not only is NAKED her staff recommendation, my book gets to sit on the shelves with great books like “Men We Reaped” by another Mississippi author and 2011 National Book Award winner Jesmyn Ward.  The thoughtful Ann Patchett’s “This Is the Story of a Happy Marriage” and “Bel Canto” also grace the space.  And close by is “The Mysterious Benedict Society,” a great series about genius children on adventures and one of my nine-year-old's favorite sets and subject of her prize winning book fair last year.

This whole publishing event for the general public has been somewhat surreal to me.  I am only accustomed to writing for a small audience of academics, who may or may not read my work.  My memoir NAKED has been out just over a month and receiving wonderful reviews including Sissy's touching remarks.

I felt like I was sitting on the sofa with a close friend and a bottle of wine as Julie told me her shocking story.  She surprised me as she delicately wove literary motifs and themes into the narrative.  I read it in one sitting. - Sissy Gardner, Parnassus Books

Thank you Parnassus Books for letting me sit with the stars for a while!
